Intro

Hello there, this is Tamil. Today I wanted to draw dark fantasy castle! I will share my process and share my inspiration.

To kick off my tutorial, I begin my creative journey on Pinterest. I explore diverse castle drawings crafted by various artists, drawing inspiration from a range of styles. Opting for a comic aesthetic, I also delve into the realm of real castles, marveling at their awe-inspiring designs and undeniable cool factor.

Sketch

Commencing the creative process, I initiate with a basic sketch using the regular brush in Clip Studio Paint—keeping it simple, nothing too fancy. Embracing a touch of laziness, I opt for a straightforward perspective and kick things off with the castle structure.

While my usual approach involves generating a plethora of thumbnails, this time around, I succumb to the urge to dive straight into drawing. Perhaps in the next session, I'll revert to the practice of sketching smaller drawings initially.

A valuable tip to share is the importance of sketching other castles beforehand to enrich your visual library. This preparatory step proves immensely beneficial in the artistic journey.

Colors and Shadows

Once the initial sketch is complete, I seamlessly transfer the file from my iPad to my laptop, leveraging the user-friendly features of Clip Studio Paint. It's a process I genuinely enjoy.

To ensure the visual impact translates well across different screens, I take a moment to assess how the image reads on the larger canvas. It's essential for the artwork to captivate whether viewed on a small or expansive display.

Moving on to the next phase, I delve into experimenting with color combinations. Channeling inspiration from my Pinterest moodboard, I explore hues that resonate with the dark fantasy aesthetic. Muted or bold colors take precedence, steering clear of pastels to maintain the enigmatic atmosphere. Let the colors weave the tale of shadows and intrigue!

Finishing Touches

In the final stages of refining the image, I turn my attention to shapes—exploring the possibilities of resizing elements. What if the moon takes on a more prominent role, casting its eerie glow across the scene? Experimenting with the castle's silhouette, adding sharper points for a more ominous feel.

Attention to detail extends to nature as well. Can the trees bend to echo the hero's journey? Perhaps the rocks can boast added texture, enhancing the overall visual experience. It's a delicate balance—striving for improvement without venturing too far into complexity.

Adding intricate touches to the castle's roof and architecture can be a joyous exploration. Each small detail contributes to the overall richness of the scene, creating a visual tapestry that invites viewers to immerse themselves in the dark fantasy realm.
