OETC operated Nahida grid station enters service

Muscat: The Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC) operated Nahida grid station 400/132 kV entered service last week and is considered the first of the 'Rabt' project.

The project consists of 14 Gas Insulator Switchgears of 400 kV, and two transformers with a voltage of 132/400 kV, each with a capacity of one Including 500 megavolt-amperes, 8 Gas Insulator Switchgears of 132 kV, control, protection, communications and associated construction works.

Also, the 400 kV overhead lines connecting Izki and Ibri grid stations were diverted to pass through the Nahida grid station.

This grid station is considered the main linking point between the north and south of the Sultanate by linking the electricity network of the Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC) in the north with the electricity network of the Petroleum Development (PDO) Company of Oman.

Eng. Saleh Nasser Al Rumhi, CEO of the company, said that this project is an addition to the main network and the link that connects the northern network with 'Rabt' project, which in turn will double the efficiency and integration of the electricity networks in the Sultanate and will play a pivotal role in enhancing the reliability and safety of the electricity sector management.

“We are counting a lot of the linkage project, which will have a positive impact in enhancing the reliability of the electricity network and reducing the use of gas,” Al Rumhi added.

It is worth noting that Oman Electricity Transmission Company is the company responsible for the transmission and control of electricity in the northern Sultanate’s network and also in the Governorate of Dhofar, where electricity is transferred from production stations to distributed load centres in all governorates of the Sultanate, and the transmission network operates at a voltage of 132 kV and above, to cover most of the governorates of the Sultanate, whether in the north or the south.
OETC also manages the interconnection lines between the Sultanate and the Gulf interconnection network with a voltage of 220 kV.
