MCG to inspect Ecogreen waste collection vehicles
Four teams will conduct surprise checks of the vehicles
Gurgaon: To make source segregation of waste in the city successful, MCG has decided to inspect 310 vehicles of concessionaire Ecogreen deployed for door-to-door collection of garbage. Four teams will be constituted under four senior MCG officials to conduct surprise checks of Ecogreen vehicles.
“The teams will primarily inspect whether the vehicles have compartments to collect and transport segregated waste, loudspeakers are functional for making announcements about waste segregation etc.
MCG has informed Ecogreen that inspection of their vehicles will be conducted on November 27,” an MCG official told TOI. The civic body has informed Ecogreen about the inspection.
MCG started waste segregation from November 11. Gurgaon also improved its performance in Swachh Survekshan by obtaining 24th rank in the category of 1 lakh to 10 lakh population. For the city to improve further or sustain this rank, it will have to work on source segregation, according to MCG officials. Service-level progress, which includes segregated collection, processing and disposal, and sustainable sanitation, holds 40% weightage. Gurgaon scored 1,690.68 points out of a maximum of 2,400 marks under this category.
Residents welcomed the MCG’s decision to inspect Ecogreen’s vehicles. Dhruv Bansal, a spokesperson for Qutub Enclave Residents Welfare Association, said, “The vehicles do not have partitions, however, the drivers ensure that segregated waste is collected and then they put the same in separate garbage bags.”
