ever since the chibita’s revenge skit there’s been something sort of passively on my mind: just how much is the sextuplets’ tab? way back in season 1 chibita demanded a million yen, but was he exaggerating? being reasonable? maybe even letting them off easy? I aim to find out - at least insomuch as is possible, since the only hard evidence we have to work with is this one lonely screenshot from s2 ep11:
and since that’s the only evidence, I’m gonna have to
make a whole lot of gratuitous assumptions in order to get any kind of estimate at all,
so here’s all of said assumptions that I’m making:
- the number on
that paper is the tab for just one night, since 1) the date on it is may and this episode came after ichimatsu declared that it was november, and 2) chibita pointedly pulls out the entire stack of papers to demonstrate how big their tab is
- they spent a lot more than usual on that particular night (since the date on that particular paper is awfully close to their birthday) and their average bill per visit is closer to 10,000 yen / approx. $100
- they eat at chibita’s cart once a week
- they cut back to once a month in summer because oden isn’t a great hot-weather food
- they make three extra trips a month in winter because oden is an excellent cold-weather food
- since oden is generally pretty inexpensive the majority of their bill is probably from alcohol, so let’s say they paid properly until they turned 20 (at which point their average bill likely skyrocketed, forcing them to open a tab)
- and the boldest assumption: they’re 23 years old (stated to be in their 20s, mentioned in s1ep4 that their parents have been married 24 years, and technically it’s an au so it may not count but in s1 ep3.5 totty implied that it’s been five years since he started renting porn which would place them at 18 five years ago), plus seven months assuming Chibita’s revenge takes place on december 11th when the episode aired
so, going by assumptions 6 and 7, that would mean that they’ve been dine and dashing for about three and a half years. let’s leave the seven months aside for now and say that 52 weeks a year, minus 12 (four weeks a month for three months) to account for summer, plus 9 (three visits a month for three months) for winter, equals 49 visits to the oden cart a year - multiplied for three years is 147 visits. and for the last seven months from their birthday to the date of the episode, I’m feeling lazy so:
we’ll round the spare five days up for an easier-to-work-with 29 weeks, minus 12 (since summer falls in this period) and plus 1 (for that week and a half of winter) for 18 visits. adding that to the previous 147 gives us 165 times altogether that the sextuplets didn’t pay their tab. now we’ll take aaaaall of that and multiply it by the assumed average bill of 10,000 yen which would give us a final total of 1,650,000 yen - roughly $16.5k - which is in fact pretty significantly over the one million he asked for in the karamatsu incident
so yeah chibita’s within his rights to murder them
