Anne Shirley has a very bad temper.

I love Anne of Green Gables.  A lot.  So when a friend asked me to make Anne of Green Gables cookies, there was no small amount of pressure.  It is very difficult to capture the joy and spirt of Anne on a cookie.

One of my favorite Anne moments is captured in this cookie.

After Anne dramatically retaliated against a teasing classmate, Anne’s teacher wrote, “Ann Shirley has a very bad temper” on the blackboard for all the students to see.  In the movie version, Anne whips around and adds an “E” at the end of her name.  It is such a wonderfully defiant moment.  If Lucy Maud Montgomery had been writing Anne of Green Gables 80 years later, Anne would have stood on her chair  and belted out the Violent Femmes anthem, “Kiss Off.”  You can all just kiss off in the air | behind my backs I can see them stare | They hurt me bad but I don’t mind | They hurt me bad they do it all the time.  But, thankfully, it wasn’t written in the 1980s and Anne’s defiance was quieter and more elegant.

Ahhh, Anne.  Here is my first set of Anne of Green Gables cookies.  Not my last, as I haven’t truly captured Anne.
