Maggie Q Reveals the Life Hack That ‘Blew My Mind': 'I Was Like, Wait a Minute, What?!’ (Exclusive)

Maggie Q admits she recently learned a new life hack that "blew my mind."

The Divergent actress, 44, recalls a recent conversation she had with her sister-in-law.

"She showed me a video about the way you put a trash bag in," Q says in this week's issue of PEOPLE. "We've been doing it all wrong. We've been putting in the can what we thought was the inside of the bag, but in fact, you're supposed to put it in the other way, to turn it inside out. And it’s so much easier! I was like, 'Wait a minute, what?!' "

A second hack that impressed the actress was the "correct" way to use a can opener: "You know how you use it, it's parallel to the can. Right? Apparently, the twist part is actually supposed to lay down on the top of the can. And it works!" she says, laughing. "I don't know what's happening in the world."

Q, who stars in the Apple TV+ movie, The Family Plan, sat down with PEOPLE for One Last Thing:

Last time I danced
Probably at the roller rink dancing on roller skates. I went on gay skate night, so there was a lot of competition. I had to bring my A-game.

Last time one of my dogs made me laugh
My German shepherd, who’s a drama queen, throws his entire body in between me and whatever dog I’m giving attention to. He’s a giant baby.

Last time I stayed up too late
I go to bed so early. We were going to a party, and I told my husband, “I have to mentally prepare for this.” We got home at 11:30, and I thought I was going to die the next day.

Last dream I remember
After dinner I like to watch Friends. I’m also designing a house for us right now, and one night in my dream, they were all helping me, literally putting up drywall. I was like, “Thank you, Monica!”
