Jessica Alba Stepping Down from The Honest Company After 'the Ride of a Lifetime'

"There would never have been an easy time to make this decision,” shared the company founder

Jessica Alba is stepping down as The Honest Company's Chief Creative Officer.

After nearly 12 years with the company, Alba, 42, shared the news in an Instagram post on Tuesday, April 9.

"It is with a grateful heart that twelve years after founding The Honest Company, I am stepping down from my leadership role as Chief Creative Officer. However, I will continue to provide strategic advice through my role on the board," Alba wrote.

The Honest Company hosted a conversation with Founder Jessica Alba and First Lady of Los Angeles, Amy Elaine Wakeland, for the Getty House Foundation Women's Leadership Series. Following, Mayor Eric Garcetti welcomed The Honest Company with co-founders Jessica Alba and Sean Kane to Los Angeles with a special ribbon cutting ceremony and proclamation on March 30, 2016 in Beverly Hills, California.

Alba founded the company in 2012 and then served as the CCO of the clean and sustainable health and wellness brand. The actress shared how building the company was “a true labor of love” and that “there would never have been an easy time to make this decision.”

She explained how she pitched “the first concept book” to her “friends in Mommy and Me class.” Alba noted the company’s successful trajectory, writing that “this journey has been the ride of a lifetime, one that only existed in [her] wildest dreams.”

“To the entire Honest team, past and present, your unwavering commitment to our mission is the fuel that keeps us going. Everyone always says you’re only as good as the people you surround yourself with - thank you for allowing me to be the best version of myself,” she continued in the announcement.

“And of course to our Honest families, I’m forever grateful,” wrote Alba. “Please never stop sharing these moments with us. You are the reason we exist. “

“Thank you for showing me that a girl with an unconventional path in business could help lead a movement for good,” she concluded.

Alba confirmed that the company still has CEO Carla Vernón at the helm of the leadership team.

Alba also shared a series of photos documenting her history with the company, beginning with a picture of her sitting on boxes of merchandise in a warehouse in 2011 to speaking at Nasdaq, when the company went public in May 2021. 

The actress added two quotes from the late First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. “Never allow a person to tell you no who doesn't have the power to say yes," reads the first quote.

The second quote read, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”

She concluded the Instagram carousel with a final photo beside CEO Vernón from this past year.
