And just like that, Carrie’s closet lives on.
In Vogue’s December 2021 cover story, Sarah Jessica Parker revealed that she still owns every outfit she wore during all six seasons and two movies of “Sex and the City.”
“I had all of the original stuff in my own storage,” the 56-year-old actress said, adding that she picked up some props in addition to her character Carrie Bradshaw’s clothes.
“Furniture, clothes, everything, packed according to season and episode and scene,” she continued. “I kept every single solitary thing.”
She took Vogue on a tour of her cavernous closet of “SATC” looks, showing the fashion bible everything from Carrie’s famous Manolo Blahniks to her bedazzled Dolce & Gabbana briefs.
“Here are the Hangisis [shoes] Big gave Carrie when he proposed; the sandals Aidan’s dog chewed on; the black pumps she wore to the Vogue fashion closet.…” Parker, who will reprise her role as Carrie in the HBO reboot “And Just Like That…” this December, told the mag.
“One of the questions that’s going to come up in ‘And Just Like That…’ will be, ‘What is it about a place like this that you need to hold on to for all these years? Why can’t you just let it go?’” she added.
In addition to showing off her impressive archives, Parker also opened up about aging in Hollywood during her interview, slamming the “misogynist” comments on her gray hair.
As for the pink tank top and white tutu seen in the series’ opening credits? Patricia Field, the show’s famed costume designer, recently donated a replica of the outfit to this year’s Housing Works Fashion for Action fundraiser, telling Page Six Style that the now-iconic style “really happened by chance” back in the ‘90s.
“I didn’t go into it with a conscious thought that it would become so iconic to the audience,” she said. “But I think they liked it because of its originality, and because it was really evocative of Carrie’s personality.”
It seems the style will get a fresh twist in the reboot this year, along with more of the original series’ iconic fashions.
Perhaps Parker will have to clear out another closet for Carrie’s “And Just Like That…” looks.
