This homemade Vegan Mince Pie Filling is packed with juicy dried fruits, warming cosy spices and fresh apple without all the added ingredients. It’s perfect for desserts over the festive period and only takes 15 minutes to make.

We love mince pies at home and get through a lot throughout the holidays, so one thing I always make sure to have, is a homemade jar of mincemeat in the fridge. It lasts really well and once it’s there; you can have mince pies for days. it’s also healthy, low in sugar and free from added ingredients or animal-derived ingredients like suet. It’s healthy enough for breakfast and delicious enough for desserts, while making the kitchen smell amazing.

What ingredients do I need?

The ingredients are easy and you can find all the information in the recipe card and see my favourites in the “shop the recipe” section.

  • Fresh apple: this adds a lovely fruitiness, adds sweetness and binds the mix together.
  • Mixed dried fruits: I use a mix of raisins, sultanas, cranberries and mixed dried peel.
  • Orange: the juice and zest adds so much flavour to this recipe.
  • Spices: this mincemeat uses cinnamon, ground ginger and mixed spice (or allspices).
  • Coconut sugar: we only use 2 tbsp for this whole jar of mincemeat. You can use other sugars like golden or regular or light brown sugar.

How do I make this?

This recipe is simple to make:

  • Core and chop the apple: and add to the pan.
  • Add all of the other ingredients into the saucepan: and bring to a boil.
  • Cook for 15 minutes over a medium high: until sticky and juicy.
  • Enjoy warm or allow to cool and store: in a jar.

How long will it last?

This will keep for 1-2 weeks in the fridge, in a sealed container, ready to use.

Homemade Vegan Mince Pie Filling (Mincemeat)

Yield: 1 jar (enough for 2 batches of mince pies)

This homemade Vegan Mince Pie Filling is packed with juicy dried fruits, warming cosy spices and fresh apple without all the added ingredients. It’s perfect for desserts over the festive period and only takes 15 minutes to make.

Ingredients

  • 1 small-medium apple
  • 250g mixed dried fruit
  • 1 orange, juice and zest
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • ½ tsp mixed spice or allspice
  • 2 tbsp coconut sugar

Instructions

  1. To prepare the fruits: core and chop the apple into small pieces. Zest and juice the orange, so you have at least 60ml of juice.
  2. To make the mincemeat: add all of the ingredients including the apple, orange zest and juice to a medium saucepan and bring to a bubble. Allow to cook for 15 minutes, with a lid on, over a medium-high heat, stirring often, until juicy and sticky.
  3. To cool and store: remove from the heat and allow to cool in a bowl. Once cool, store in an airtight container for 1-2 weeks in the fridge.
