The PACE Venice Commission noted that the principle of the irremovability of judges is an extremely important guarantee, Armenian Minister of Justice Rustam Badasyan said on Monday at the parliament .

According to him, the Commission advises with great caution to treat any changes that are in any way related to this principle.

Badasyan noted that the conclusion of the Venice Commission states that the purpose of the changes is not to reduce the high democratic standards in the republic, and also that there are no changes that would allow the political majority to control the appointment of judges.

Earlier, the Venice Commission said in a statement it regrets that a proposal for constitutional amendments was introduced in the Armenian Parliament on the day of the adoption by the Venice Commission of its opinion.

According to Secretary General Marija Pejcinovic Buric, "the constitutional crisis in Armenia can be solved with the Venice Commission’s guidance."

"I invite all authorities to be guided by the Venice Commission recommendations to overcome the constitutional crisis through smooth implementation of the relevant provisions of the 2015 Constitution and in accordance with Council of Europe standards," she concluded.
