Remuneration:

  • During Institutional Phase (Training): Stipend of R4500 per month
  • Probation Phase: Salary of R216,033 per annum
  • Appointees will receive additional service benefits during the probation phase.

SAPS Trainees Role and Responsibilities

Upon successful completion of training, the core functions of a police trainee include:

  • Crime prevention, combat, and investigation.
  • Maintenance of public order.
  • Protection and security of the Republic’s inhabitants and their property.
  • Upholding and enforcing the law.

Basic Police Development Learning Programme (BPDLP)

Trainees will undergo a comprehensive 21-month Basic Police Development Learning Programme (BPDLP) comprising:

  1. Induction Phase: One month at a designated police station.
  2. Basic Training Phase: Duration varies between six and eight months depending on educational qualifications, conducted at a SAPS Academy.
  3. Probation Phase: 12 months of Workplace Exposure Programme upon successful completion of the first two phases.

Free training gear, meals, accommodation, and medical aid benefits are provided during the Basic Training Phase. Successful completion of the BPDLP qualifies trainees for consideration for permanent SAPS membership at the Constable rank.

Who Qualifies to Apply for SAPS Trainees 2024/25

To be eligible for the job opening, applicants must:

  • Be a permanent resident of South Africa.
  • Possess a Grade 12 school certificate or equivalent qualification.
  • Be proficient in English and at least one other official language.
  • Be aged between 18 and 35.
  • Have no previous criminal convictions.
  • Not have visible tattoos when in uniform.
  • Be physically and mentally fit for service.
  • Undergo required medical, psychological, and fitness assessments.
  • Be prepared to serve anywhere in South Africa.

SAPS Trainees Selection Process

The rigorous selection process includes fitness, psychometric, and integrity testing, medical evaluations, and personal interviews. Qualifications, citizenship, and residential addresses will be verified. Additionally, a thorough background check, including security screening and fingerprint verification, will be conducted.
