Upon A Star Glow In The Dark

When I saw the WOW glow in the dark embossing powder, I just had to get some to make cards for my nieces and nephew. This embossing powder is perfect paired with the Lawn Fawn Upon a Star stamp set.

I actually made 4 of these cards, and worked on all of them at the same time, building the cards up in stages.

The background is distress inks with some flicked water detail. The grassy hill and skyline are both from MFT. It’s such a shame that MFt have discontinued that skyline as it’s really great. I love adding yellow card behind the windows for lights.

I stamped and coloured lots of the bunnies and foxes from the Upon A Star stamp set, and cut them out with the matching dies. I don’t often buy matching dies, especially now I have a scanncut machine, but I liked that the dies for this set cut out the centres of the star constellations.

The last part to work on was the embossed stars. I chose some Lawn Fawn blue jay card stock, as I wanted a dark border around the stars. Blue is softer than black, but black card would be perfectly fine too.

I have to say, I found the glow in the dark embossing powder tricky to work with. I’ve mostly worked with metallic embossing powders so far (other than white and clear), and I wasn’t sure if I was burning the powder as it went very flat. In the end, I actually used two layers of embossing powder. The Misti stamping tool comes in very handy for this. Two layers of embossing powder gave me the look I wanted.

I die cut all the stars and adhered them to the cards. You need to ‘charge’ the glow in the dark embossing powder by holding it under a light for a few moments. The effect is so fun!
