I love the simplicity of this editorial. And how the texture of the background plays a huge part in setting the tone. Not to mention, I am a huge fan of color blocking neutrals; gold is an excellent accent color. But mainly, I’d have to credit Camilla for making this editorial. While I absolutely adore Iselin, it’s Camilla’s eye for framing the shot that stands out. She always fleshes out beautiful lines with the architecture of the location and manages to keep my interest. Even with the monochrome neutral stone. And, I didn’t even recognize that this is near the river Seine. Camilla gives me an intriguing, unusual perspective on Pont Neuf. I still get the sense of history from it, but without the touristy Seine river shot. And for that, I thank her.

Edita Vilkeviciute by Camilla Akrans for Numéro #96 September 2008
Edita + Camilla seems to be a popular model/photographer pairing. I have counted 5 editorials with that pairing in my archives, which is quite a bit for such a transient industry. In any case, I like it. While I am not impressed by every editorial with that particular pair (it’s hard to be when they certainly do more than the 5 I have), I think they’re a very good working pair. The photography to this one, in particular, is stunning. The lighting just enhances the contrast between black and white. I love the large presence of the church in the editorial as well; it makes the wide shots really impressive. It’s great that Edita’s presence remains well felt in the wide shots as well. There’s hardly a weak shot in the lot. The shadows Edita creates are really stunning as well. I love the way she poses. Shot 3 is a particularly nice example where she’s leaning arms spread with her face upturned. But my absolutely favorite shot in this editorial is shot 5 where Edita is like a Grecian (or Italian) statue. Everything about it is just so well done, from the tilt of her head to the flowing semi-transparent sheet draped over her. I also adore Numéro for its spectacular editorials. This upholds the standard of excellence. And here’s to a beautiful partnership.

This features an unusually blond Edita, but moreover, an un-PhotoShopped Edita. Brunettes going blond seems to be popular this season (Abbey Lee recently went platinum blonde). In any case, this is another lovely Camilla Akrans editorial for Numéro. While I don’t like all of it (, there’s a couple shots that I like: the one above, 6, 7, and 8. Oh the French. They don’t sweat the little things: goose-bumps, pores, laugh lines. And thank God for that. There’s such a microawareness of that elsewhere that it’s reaching ridiculous levels. While I love avante-garde pieces, there is no need for obviously airbrushed images of people. So bravo Numéro.

Sasha Pivovarova by Camilla Akrans for Numéro Issue #86
Very Jessica Rabbit-esque. And a bit unusual type of styling and feel to this one for a Camilla-Akrans shoot. Sasha looks spectacular in this editorial. I like her as a blond but I must say, she makes a stunning redhead. I like the red tinted lighting as well. Instead of feeling unnatural and out of place, it only adds to the fantastical feel of it. It’s very glamorous and escapist.

Gotta love a bride in black. Camilla Akrans always delivers such romantic editorials and this is most definitely her M.O. if a little morbidly. The photography is absolutely gorgeous. And although she wears a lot of black and white lace (with the one red cloak shot), the color in this is so vivid.

Lovely romantic shoot by Camilla Akrans. Amanda Norgaard looks cattishly provocative with those slight peaks of skin and knowing look in her eye. The color saturation of the photos is excellent as well; it adds to the whimsical romanticism of the shoot. I love how she draws attention to her mouth with clever finger placement. Also, I so want the clothes, especially those fishnets. Job well done.

Stunning romantic soft focus shots by Camilla Akrans as per usual. Lily, of course, is whimsically beautiful in this as she lounges around in fur and lingerie. What girl wouldn’t want to revel in such luxury? Camilla captures sensuality excellently with flashes of skin and focus on unexpected body parts. For instance, in the very first shot, I can’t help but zero in on her bare thigh although it’s not particularly provocative. In another (actually the one above), the peek of her bottom is an excellent touch. It’s cheeky and playful without losing the more serious tone. And very natural. J’adore Camilla Akrans’ photography and Lily Donaldson’s modeling.

Behati Prinsloo by Camilla Akrans for Vogue Nippon May 2007
Behati’s quite the vamp in this editorial; and I mean this in the best possible way. There’s an old school glamour about this shoot. And I do so love a good throwback. Although I’m used to her more playful side, I love how powerful of a model she is. Her work moves me. She does this beautiful, artful, and occasionally, heart-wrenching work that I can’t help but love. In this case, I love the sophistication she brings to it. Behati is certainly someone watch. Not to mention, I always enjoy Camilla Akrans’ romantic style of shooting.

Not only is Anj one of my favorite models, having Camilla Akrans as the photographer makes me love this shoot even more. I have yet to find a Camilla Akrans shoot that I’ve disliked. The perspective is certainly unique; she makes me aware of things I normally wouldn’t look at. In one, she brings the focus to Anja’s eyes in one shot in a way I wouldn’t expect. The play of shadow and light brilliantly illuminates the hollow of the throat or the planes of her face in other photos.
