Extended Facing

Extended facing is a facing unit cut in one piece with the garment and folded to the inside. It is used on a front or back opening to avoid the seamline produced by a joining separate facing. It reduces bulk when making garments of heavy fabrics.

The image below shows the facing used in an unlined knit suit or jacket. The facing extends out to the armhole. This facing can be used to advantage in many garments because it is sewn in with the sleeve or armhole facing and is thus held firmly in place. It also adds desirable body to the garment.
