City signs experienced goalkeeper, Jamie Young

Melbourne City FC is excited to confirm the signing of experienced Australian goalkeeper, Jamie Young.

He joins City for what is set to be a busy 2023/24 season, with the Club embarking on a new AFC Champions League campaign alongside the domestic competition.

Young brings plenty of ACL experience having twice competed in the competition under its usual home and away format, which City will be doing for the first time after its debut campaign was held in a hub due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He joins City from Western United with an impressive 200 A-League Men’s appearances to his name, having previously spent seven years with Brisbane Roar.

Highly regarded as one of Australia’s best shot-stoppers, he’ll also play a key role in the continued development of 19-year-old goalkeeper, James Nieuwenhuizen, along with a number of other City Academy prospects.

Melbourne City FC Director of Football, Michael Petrillo, said:

“Jamie has proven to be one of the best and most consistent goalkeepers in the A-League Men’s for several years now. He has strong leadership qualities and a great attitude to the game.

“We look forward to having him join our playing squad and adding his experience to our defensive group.”

Jamie Young said:

“I think Melbourne City speaks for itself. There’s always a desire to play for a Club that’s been competing at the top level and has had prolonged success.

“For me coming into the dressing room, it’s not about changing the culture, it’s more just contributing to the culture that already exists.

“Being a player that has seen City over the last couple of years and having previously had success myself, I think those principles would be quite similar. I’ll be aiming to contribute in a positive way both on and off the pitch and am hoping to be part of more success for the Club”
