Back in 1984, I met my future wife who we shared three daughters at Boardy Barn happy hour.... Although we divorced in 2004, my three daughters know "how I met their mother "... the two older ones got to experience happy hour here, but, my youngest didn't due to covid... and for that, I am very sad!!!
There were no better way to spend Sundays at Boardy Barn Happy Hour. Partying, drinking with friends, and listening to the best music America offered!!! DJ Jimmy Soul always ended it with American Pie... what a time to be young in America!!! I cherish those days, friends, and meeting the mother of my children. I will miss this iconic landmark dearly!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 15, 2016
Boardy Barn is SO LONG ISLAND and such a fun time. The most "Long Island" thing you will ever do in your life. The whole thing is an experience. I am so shocked at how much I love this place... and so surprised that a place like this even exists. I went for the first time this past weekend WITHOUT super high expectations. I figured I wouldn't have as much fun compared to if I went while still in school.
WELL, I was wrong. It is the ultimate Sunday Funday. Unsure what the capacity is but the place itself is huge inside and out. People come in big groups and take either the LIRR or organize buses out here. If you grew up on Long Island, you should experience Boardy Barn at least once. Ran into like 30 people from high school/college and met many more friendly people who were there just to have a good time. The bartenders will give you those infamous smiley face stickers (with your $2 beer) which you will proceed to put on whomever you want, friends and strangers alike. I didn't drink as much as the majority because of work early the next day but it didn't matter - was still a fun, lively atmosphere that I was happy to be apart of.
And the music is the best part! 90s to early 2000s hits including THE SPICE GIRLS and all the songs from your childhood/teenage years (once you hear, you suddenly remember all the lyrics!) Now I see why they call it the "happiest place on earth"
It's amazing, I've never been in an environment that was so drunken/crazy but at the same time so controlled. There are dozens of bouncers everywhere (in orange tshirts) maintaining order. Some think the bouncers are abrasive but really they're doing their job, and probably the reason the place has been open for over 40 years. There are also police officers at the LIRR station towards the end of the day making sure everyone is lined up safely with their tickets and ready to get back on the train. The ride back from boardy barn Sunday evening is on par with the craziness of the "drunk train" back from Manhattan Fri/Sat nights.
Honestly, the trek out to Hampton Bays and then the 3 hour wait on line (we got there at 12 but others go much earlier!) was not nearly as bad as it sounds. Actually, it wasn't bad at all. Everyone is hanging, drinking, having a good time.
If you are 21-25 years old, AKA college or immediately post grad, you should try it. If you're older than that, I would say proceed with caution/not recommend. You will come out of Boardy Barn looking like a hot mess, covered in beer with mud all over your shoes.Helpful 18Thanks 0Love this 27Oh no 0 - Nicholas L.Coram, NY25716Oct 11, 2019
My first time going to the boardy barn was one of THE best experiences of my life. I got to hangout with my friends, pound back a few brews with the boys and sing along to chers song believe.
Definitely recommend going here at least once in your life.
The people here are there to have a good time, not fight. I always hear that, that's why I stated it is not true.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Boss K.New York, NY4558May 23, 2019
10 dollar cover charge and then cash only bar once you are inside. Literally 10 police cars posted up right outside to do field sobriety tests and issue DWIs accordingly. Seems like a blast.

I went here for a friends birthday, big group of us. Was a lot of fun, we took a cheap limo and I'm happy we did, cause it was a really comfortable ride back and we were hammered. $1 beers so it's not that much money to get drunk and they give you a bunch of stickers which you and random strangers will stick in each other. You have to go on a nice day because the open space is crazy, but so is the line for the bathrooms. They are port a potties, so be warned. The music is great and fun, so have an awesome time.
Tips:
-Make sure to have a good DD or rent some type of bus or limo, I come from queens and it's a hell of a drive and we hit traffic. Plus you're going to not want to worry when coming back hammered.
-do not wear clothes, especially shoes you're found of. They will get ruined. And you will have beer spilt on you
-only drink beer! The beer is cheap, but the mixed drinks are not!
-try to not need to use the bathroom
-make sure to dance, drink, and sticker random people to have a great time!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Edward D.New York, NY2858878031Oct 23, 2018
Summer bar in the Hamptons, the best day is Sunday with a large open area in the back. This is a beer & a shot kinda place, so don't expect a wine list. During the summer they have lots of events, but my favorite is the annual chili & chowder contest, which is just so much fun. You get to taste all the chili and/or chowders you want in a fun environment.
This place has been here for years, and there's a reason it's still open! Thanks for the memories (and the fun)!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Felicia M.Queens, NY281296254May 30, 2017
The Boardy Barn is hard to explain, I find myself often times scaring people who've never been. Here are some of the rules:
1. Don't wear jeans or anything nice, you'll look like a fool.
2. Cool tees/tanks and killer sunnies are a must.
3. Do not wear white shorts unless you're willing to part with them.
4. Wear flip flops or crappy shoes, your feet/shoes will be gross by the end of the day.
5. Put your phone in a ziplock bag or keep it in something waterproof.
6. You will get beer on you whether it's your friends pouring it on you or from the hundreds of people walking past you spilling it everywhere.
7. Don't wear orange the bouncers wear that color so they won't let you in.
8. They only accept cash, there is a $20 cover; ATM inside.
9. If you don't have a connect on the inside be prepared to wait 3+ hours on line. Get there early and be liquored up so by the time you get inside you're back down to a buzz.
10. If they catch you drinking on the line they will take your booze, and cutting is frowned upon, but it def happens.
11. They grill your ID so if you're underage you def want to think twice about taking the chance.
12. Be prepared for the best day of your life!
If you're going on a holiday weekend the line will be insane, I went this past Sunday and have never seen a line like that in my life! Boardy closes early around 7 or 8 PM and people were still showing up at 4/5 PM and the line was wrapped around the joint! I wouldn't wait more than 3 hours, but if you want to experience the barn then you got to wait, it will be worth it if it's your first time!!Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jessica R.Bayport, NY202161111Aug 5, 2015
I've been here three times. Each time is unique and different from the last.
First time I was here I had a blast. Although there was a misunderstanding and my guy friend got kicked out by bouncers and it was pretty intense to see.
Second time was alright, and my other guy friend got kicked out. This time for no other reason then he looked to drunk? I mean it is the Boardy Barn and I saw a lot more messy people, but whatever, it probably was for the best. I wanted pizza anyway.
Third time a charm? Went here last Sunday and had a blast. It didn't feel as overwhelming this time around and there were absolutely no issues.
Tips:
-Don't wear orange. Bouncers wear orange and you won't be allowed in.
-Drink water on line, don't pregame. You'll be tired and hung over mid way through. I didn't the last time and I think that's why I felt great and had more fun.
-Expect to wait online for a long time, but it's better waiting before it opens, rather than after.
-Hang out in multiple places throughout the day. You might find an area you prefer more.
Lastly, We took an Uber from the train station to the barn and that was delightful. Took a taxi back and that was just as good.
We took the 5ish pm train (fairly early), so we were on one of the more "peaceful" trains. Kinda.
Oh and wear sneakers, please. If you want your feet to look like someone threw up confetti on you then wear those flips, be my guest. And don't dress up because it's not worth it.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Antoinetta A.Port Washington, NY3914032Aug 13, 2017
Absolutely the best place ever!!!!! $3 beers, 90s music, and the chance of always running into someone you know. I go at least 2-3 times each summer and love it every single time.
No matter what time you go there will be a line (as long as 3 hours or as quick as 45 minutes) but we always drink before so it goes by fast (there's also a liquor store right within walking distance to smuggle shots on line). There's a huge shaded tent part for the line though with fans so you're not sweating before you even get in.
The staff is super friendly and awesome! They take your picture right before you get in so look for it on their website!!! Definitely raised the prices from $2 last summer to $3, but still who can beat that?!!
Only downside is that it gets SUPER crowded; I've lost my friends every single time (and my shoes once or twice). Don't wear flip flops or orange, bring a plastic bag for your phones (beer gets thrown everywhere), and brush up on your 90s songsHelpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 26, 2013
$1 dogs in your mouth, $2 beers all over your face and clothes, and non-stop rocking music and dancing all afternoon?! If you seriously don't see God himself when you come here...YOU'RE NOT DOING IT RIGHT!
Boardy Barn is the best thing to happen to Sunday afternoons in the Hamptons since...well, anything. Be nice, make friends, and let yourself go, and you will be guaranteed a good time! You'll leave Boardy Barn with a smile plastered on your face, and plenty of smiley stickers plastered all over your drenched outfit.
