Co-written by Aaron Sorkin. Featuring Gwyneth Paltrow "playing" a spoiled, lazy bitch, Jigsaw, Slave to Love and Anne Bancroft stealing the show in her only scene. I love 90's trash so much. It's impressive how disconnected from the rest of the film the serial killer subplot is.

airless clockwork neonoir preoccupied with its own cleverness but mean as proverbial snakes has some truly outstanding cardigan combos that announce themselves directly and remain the star of any scene but my favorite is Bebe Neurwith's cranberry cop cardigan over a white blouse and grey mid-length skirt with her badge clipped onto the top of her skirt A++ coproganda.
in the 1990's if u were stuck at the mall and went to a random movie u were only kind of interested in and was only ok at best the probability u might encounter a completely amazing and totally eccentric for no good reason Anne Bancroft scene was much better than u could ever have deserved in a gazillion lifetimes <3
Becker patiently controls this killer combo of Sorkin's crackling defense of self-aggrandizement and expertise and Scott Frank's whiplash plotting, spending half the runtime wallowing in a lurid misdirecting subplot that exists only to reveal a crucial bit of evidence to the protagonist. Could it get any more romantical for opening day of soppy fortnight :P God, I miss these wackadoodle 90s thrillers. I barely remembered anything and loved all of the twists and psychoticness. The plot is really out there. :D
About 50 minutes in, playboy surgeon Alec Baldwin gives a sly monologue about how not only does he perform with a “God complex,” no beyond that, “I am God.” That “God complex” saying comes up when a surgeon makes extreme decisions to save a person, and well, Baldwin is arrogant enough to suggest that he plays conceitedly by his own manifest. The movie was written by Aaron Sorkin and Scott Frank, so it does have its share of prickly and exultant dialogue.
It’s terrible that the movie starts falling apart right after this halfway point. The second half is so different tonally and objectively than the first compelling half. The very talented Nicole Kidman behaves very differently after the deposition…

Yeah.... this film is ridiculous and not at all the fun kind. Convoluted, distasteful and completely far fetched. Literally just no fun at all.
The acting is all very solid, you can tell Alec Baldwin is having a lot of fun in the role but other than that I wouldn’t recommend it.
All right, I think my effusive appraisal of all previously unseen early '90s movies is getting a bit pathological at this point. A week after having watched "Malice" and finally getting around to reviewing it, my enthusiasm has died down some and I recognize that in many ways it's a pretty typical "psycho interloper" thriller from that time, when dozens of nearly identical plots were being churned out in Hollywood each year. Without a doubt the craziest project Aaron Sorkin has ever touched, Malice combines elements of medical drama, erotic thriller, and murder mystery to create one of the twistiest movies I’ve ever seen. Sorkin and cowriters Scott Frank and Jonas McCord inject so many heel turns and red herrings that it’s absolutely impossible to guess where this movie is going until the very end.
