Get to know about Different Types of Synthetic Resins! What does Synthetic resin mean? Synthetic resin is compound which is made by combination of carbon, hydrogen atom and with less quantity of oxygen, sulphur atom through certain chemical bond. Resins are basically sticky or gummy substances which can be converted into hard or firm polymers through a restoring process. Resins are naturally taking place but are often made synthetically. Some resins have same properties to natural resins but are totally different. Synthetic Resins have different classes. Some are manufactured by esterification of other compounds. Synthetic resins have several classes. Some are manufactured by the esterification of organic compounds. Some resins are like thermosetting plastics within which the term "resin" is loosely applied to the reactant or product, or both. The term "resin" is also applied to at least one of two monomers in an exceedingly copolymer, other being called a "hardener.” Know you will get to know about different types of Synthetic Resins: 1. Polyester Resins These resins are made from the reaction of dibasic acids and polyhydric alcohols. They very ductile or tensile and have good resistance to heat, chemicals, and flame. They manage or result to low cost. Applications:     

They are used for construction sector, Auto-repair of fillers, Can be used in plane and ship components, Can also be used for coatings or in fishing rods, Decorative accessories and in bottles.

2. Phenolic Resins Phenolic resins are one kind of thermosetting compositions. They are strong, heat and impact impenetrable and have a high resistance to chemical corrosion and also the penetration of moisture. Phenolic resins are machined easily. Applications:     

They’re used for resin infuse, Brake linings, Electrical components, Adhesives for cement, Bonded adhesives, and molds.

3. Alkyd Resins: These kinds of resins are thermoplastic polyester resins created by heating up polyhydric alcohols with polybasic acids. They have good electrical and thermal properties. These resins also have good chemical resistance and have low cost. Applications:  Electrical insulation,  Can be used in putty fillers and in paints.  Also be used in electronic components. 4. Polycarbonate Resins This kind of resins is thermoplastics and is developed from bisphenol A and phosgene. They need a high ratio, electrical and thermal dimensional firmness, resistance to staining, and resistance to filtration. Applications:  They’re used for metal replacements,  Safety helmets and lenses,

 Electrical components,  Photography film, and in insulators. 5. Polyurethane resins These resins are copolymers which are made of polyol and isocyanate components. They are flexible when combined with other resins, and have a high film elasticity and adhesion to substrates. Polyurethane resins even have an honest balance of elongation and hardness. Applications:  They’re used for insulation,  Elastomers,  Adhesives and can foam liners for clothing. 6. Polyamide Resins: Polyamide Resins can hold on an amide group as a reoccurring part of molecular chains. This can be molded easily, are strong and impenetrable. It is also light-weight. These resins are abrasion and are chemical resistant. Applications:  Can be used for non-lubricating bearings,  Fibers, Gears, Tires,  Can also be used in packaging and in bottles. 7. Silicone Resins Silicone resins can be made with sodium silicate and several chlorosilanes, but now they're often formed with the less reactive tetraethoxysilane or ethyl polysilicate and several other disiloxanes. They need good thermal and oxidative stability. They also are tensile and water repellent. This resins form a hard films as their three-dimensional network structure. Applications:  They’re used for rubber, laminates,  Encapsulated resins, and

 Can be used in water-resistant applications. 8. Epoxy Resins Also known as polyepoxides, which are a kind of reactive prepolymers and polymers which contain epoxide groups. They need good chemical and warmth resistance and powerful adhesion properties. They’re used for laminates, gums, flooring, linings, propellers, and surface coatings. There are many other synthetic resins such as Acrylic Resins, Polystyrene and Polypropylene Resins.
