Val Jackson Elementary opened in the fall of 2004.
In early 2003, the Board of Education voted to name the new school Abner Val Jean Jackson Elementary.
Val Jackson was born on April 22, 1933 in Wichita.

He married Erma on March 15, 1953. They had four children.

Erma and Val ran Jackson Reality and managed the Calvary Towers Senior Citizens Housing Project.
They were both long time members of the Calvary Baptist Church. They were known for sponsoring local scholarships and community events, but wished to stay anonymous. Jackson also adopted Seltzer Elementary School and provided financial resources to the school and its students.
Erma passed away in 1994. Val joined her on November 14, 2002. He was 69 years old. He and his Erma are buried at the Old Mission Cemetery.
The District contracted with Charles F. McAfee for architectural and engineering services. He’s well known for creating the pool at McAdams Park. When the pool was recently updated, it was renamed the McAfee Pool.
