WILDLIFE 7 Read the dialogue. Miss Walsh: Today we're hosting Mr Sam Carter. We'll talk about the animal extinction and the environmental problems. Welcome, Mr Carter. Mr Carter: Thank you. Miss Walsh: What shoul we do to protect wildlife, Mr Carter? Mr Carter: Well... First of all, we should know that our planet belongs not only to humans but also to the animals. To me, the first important thing is not to pollute the environment. Pollution kills all the living creatures including the plants. Also, we should stop destroying animal habitats to make fields or using the forests and seas as garbage bins. Animals become extinct because humans don't care about their environment. The other reason for animals extinction is, of course, hunting. It should be forbidden, and governments should educate people about it. Animals are hunted for their teeth, fur, skin, etc. to make clothes or souvenirs. Do humans need such souvenirs? Do they have to wear animal fur? I don't think so. Miss Walsh: What can be done to save the endangered animals? Mr Carter: Many things. Learn about the endangered species in your area and warn people about them. UNIT 10 8 Read the text. Planets in Our Solar System Planets are large natural objects. They orbit around stars. The eight planets in our solar system (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune) orbit the star called the Sun. Planets differ from other objects such as comets, astreoids and meteors. Planets have an atmosphere or a layer of gases surrounding them. Most of the planets have at least one moon. There are two main types of planets. The first four planets nearest to the Sun (Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars) are called inner planets. They are rocky planets. The other four ones (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune) are called gas giants. They are made of gases and have no solid surfaces. These gas giants mostly have many moons and a system of rings. Planets move in two ways. Each one orbits the Sun. To complete one orbit is equal to a year on that planet. For example, a year on Earth is 365 days, and it completes its orbit in that time. Each planet also rotates or spins around its center. On most planets, a day is equal to the time it takes the planet to complete one rotation. a Write True(T) or False(F). b Answer the questions. 1.
