Experiencing Interruptions?

THE SILENT INVASION of the mediterranean sea

This compelling documentary highlights the threat posed by new invasive species to the Mediterranean ecosystem. We showcase the disruption these invaders are causing, endangering native species and biodiversity. Through beautiful imagery and interviews, we explore potential solutions, with a focus on lionfish as a food source to control population growth. Our film features Arne, a German spearfisherman, and local diving legend Dimitrios. Arne demonstrates simple and sustainable methods for preparing lionfish, which are an alternative to overfished species such as sea bass and grouper. The overall problem of overfishing is highlighted and the need to protect marine areas in the Mediterranean Sea. Filmed between June 2022 and May 2023, we witnessed the significant spread of invasive species, displacing and negatively impacting marine life. However, amidst the challenges, we also discovered hope in the concept of marine protected areas.
