Just in time for Women’s History Month, acclaimed best-selling comic designer Pénélope Bagieu (My Quite Fascinating Life) has illustrated a stunning graphic novel paying tribute to rebellious female pioneers.

Brazen: Rebel Ladies Who Rocked the World spans centuries across the globe, with Bagieu using her signature drawings to bring various women’s indomitable spirits to life. From Nellie Bly to Mae Jemison or Josephine Baker to Naziq al-Abid, the stories in this comic biography, told through vivid vignettes, may just inspire the next generation of rebel ladies.

The graphic novel is bookended by Bagieu telling her own story, in a short comic that doubles as visually appealing and intimately personal. She recreates her childhood, her time through high school and college, and finally her career in adulthood, leading right up to Brazen. Told in the same style as those stories of iconic women from history, it’s a lovely reminder that “rebel ladies” worth celebrating are all around us.

Check out the exclusive excerpt below, and pre-order Brazen ahead of its March 6 release here.
