Ariadna Gutierrez, who was mistakenly announced as the winner of the Miss Universe Pageant Sunday, posted on Instagram that her awkward moment in the spotlight actually brought lots of positive attention to her country and the Latin community. “After the storm comes the calm,” she wrote. “I was able to bring happiness to my country after becoming Miss Universe for only a couple of minutes… today because of that COLOMBIA and the LATIN COMMUNITY are being talked about in every corner of the world.” She went on to congratulate the Philippines for their new Miss Universe, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach. On Sunday, Gutierrez was crowned the new Miss Universe — and stood on stage wearing the sash for several seconds — before host Steve Harvey admitted that he goofed and that Miss Philippines was supposed to win, instead.
