I am obsessed with this outfit. Not just because Villanelle is particularly very, very attractive in it. But because of a particular color that cuts through the stark black of the jumpsuit.

Green.

The color green within the Killing Eve universe within association with Villanelle has been written about left and right.

Green is emotion. Green is vulnerability. Green is Eve.

Green has always been Eve, since Villanelle wore Eves stolen green zebra scarf in Berlin, since her realizations in Amsterdam, since shooting Eve who was clad in green in Rome, and since wrapping herself protectively in it in season 3 episode 7 where all she wore was green and beastly. Villanelle always wrapped Eve around her.

What this outfit is telling me is Villanelle has put up a guard to her feelings for Eve. But Eve is there nonetheless, the guard that Villanelle put up is a faulty one. It has cracks and it is easy for the dam to burst. Villanelle can never escape her feelings for Eve, just as Eve found she can’t run from her feelings for Villanelle in turn.

The Devil in the Room

04x02 is where Eves fate was sealed when she made a deal with the devil.

“Stop what you doing…before it’s too late”

This song is Eves personal muse following her around trying to warn her but is never successful. What is worrying to me it that this song stops chanting before Eves encounter with Helene and ceases playing-we do not hear this song play at all in 04x03. I may be jumping the gun, but Eves show down with Helene sealed her fate. She can not back out now, there’s no going back. It’s too late.

I had made a quiet observation in 04x03, two scenes that involving Villanelle worrying over Eves seared palm.

Not only does Villanelles hyperfixation on Eves injury a sweet display of compassion for her beloved but also a sign that it fills Villanelle with dread at what Eve is getting herself into. It’s a distinct writing choice by the writers.

Villanelles concerns is clocked two times, and when in media something is hinted/shown twice or more it is important. Like Eves fascination with the fish tank and the mention of Eves revenge which is explicitly stated as a suicide mission.

When Villanelle motions too Eves injury, I personally felt an ever present elephant in the room- A Devil in the room more like it. Helene with her perfectly manicured claws clenching Eves shoulder, an oppressive force looming over the star crossed lovers.

Eve is being wrapped within Helene’s tempting sphere of influence. Thriving on the chase and the danger that has literally already got her burned. And is within that dance with death she is so willing to risk everything.

This far into the season I have hope that Eve can turn this around. That she can get the upper hand, I believe she is betting on that. But what a slim chance she’ll win. How can you gamble against the dealer with a corrupt hand, with everything stacked perfectly to deceive you? It is with a heavy heart that I knew: Eve will most likely not make it out alive. I hope I’m proven wrong.
