How to Take Action on Your Goals

How to Take Action on Your Goals

When it comes to goal setting, it's great to write your goals down, be specific, be realistic, have an action plan, set big goals, and know your why.

But none of that matters, if you don't take action.

I share 4 tips for you to help you take action!

So, what does it mean to take action with your goals? Think about your why and that action plan that you created.

In a previous blog, I talked about identifying and listing your personal motivators.

Think about that deep personal motivation for what you are doing. That motivation will help propel you into action.

Remember, if you can’t find at least three motivators for a goal, then that goal is not personal for you. In fact, that may be a goal someone else told you that you should work towards. If that is the case, then chances are, you will not take action. AND you should remove that goal from your list of goals and from your action plan.

News flash....your goals are YOUR goals. Your motivators are YOUR motivators. What motivates you is specific to you, not anyone else.

Even with the 4 tips I am going to share with you, how you respond to those 4 tips is going to be unique to you! Those 4 tips will help you reach the deadlines that you included in your action plan.

In his blog on the entrepreneur.com website, Deep Patel said that “Your goals will never happen if you don’t’ take action.” Deep is right. Remember you have an action plan. The one that you wrote it done.

You made a commitment to yourself by writing down your goals, made your goals specific, made them realistic, set deadlines in your action plan for the time that you want to achieve those goals, and identified your motivators.

Think about those tasks that you included in your action plan….those objectives….those are the things that you can use to get started.

These are your goals and your action plan, so if you need to make changes as you start your action, make those changes.

Be sure to write down the changes that you made!

Being consistent in completing those small goals, tasks, and objectives is how you are taking action. You keep completing those, despite what others are telling you or what they may be saying.

Remember that you wrote the deadlines in your action plan for completing those small goals, tasks, and objectives.

Taking action and achieving your goals is what moves your goals from being wishes and dreams to being a reality.

Jack Canfiled highlighted 4 tips for being action oriented towards your goals. I think that they are definitely worth sharing to help you meet those deadlines that you included in your action plan!

1. Eliminate excuses

2. Don’t wait for the perfect moment

3. Take the first step

4. “Fail Forward Faster”

So, let’s look at each of those 4 tips

1. Eliminate Excuses

When looking for a reason to delay you starting to do something, guess what, you will always find a reason.

You might be telling yourself that you need more time, more money, more resources, more research.

Have you said this to yourself before? (Don't worry, no one is looking to see you nod your head. Thanks for being honest.)

These are simply excuses!

Because you will only keep adding to that list and never take action towards your goals.

A successful person hears these same things, but they ignore them and TAKE ACTION.

Don’t you want to be successful too?

2. Don’t Wait For The Perfect Moment

So you are waiting for that perfect moment…that right moment…cause timing is everything.

I am here to tell you that there really is NO perfect moment to be waiting for. Any moment can ideally be YOUR perfect moment.

So stop telling yourself things like …there is too much going on in your life right now or work is so busy and you don’t have time.

Guess what?

If your goals are important to you, you will find the time!

Achieving your goals is like achieving your freedom to live the life that you want!

3. Take The First Step

Do you remember the excitement that you felt when you took that first step into your FIRST job?

Not to mention that feeling of knowing you will be earning your own money and that you will no longer have to be depending on your parents or grandparents anymore!

Think about that feeling. That was you taking a step towards your goal of independence! AND you took it!

Fast forward to today. You have written specific and realistic goals, in an action plan, and you identified your motivators. Now take that first step to achieving those goals.

You will continue taking more steps in your journey towards achieving your goals.

Each step will become easier and easier (because you have your action plan)!

4. “Fail Forward Faster”

You will experience failures on your journey towards achieving your goals. Don’t let those failures stop you.

So what if you messed up?

Next time you will know what to do! You learn from your mistakes.

Stay focused on your motivators.

Keep on your journey toward achieving your goals.

Ultimately, stop making excuses, stop waiting for the perfect time, take that first step and use your failures to keep moving forward towards those deadlines that you set in your action plan.
