‘Back In Action’: Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx Beat Up Bad Guys In First Footage From Netflix’s Troubled Production

Nearly a decade after her last appearance in a movie, Cameron Diaz is coming out of retirement for her Netflix movie with Jamie Foxx, Back in Action. And we finally got a first look at the appropriately-titled action flick, courtesy of Netflix’s 2024 sizzle reel that dropped on Thursday morning.

In the short clip, which you can find at roughly the two-minute mark in the trailer in the player at the top of this page, Diaz and Foxx channel the energy of Spy Kids stars Carla Gugino and Antonio Banderas: Parents, who are also spies!

“What if Mom and Dad are criminals?” asks young actor McKenna Roberts.

“We were spies,” Diaz corrects. Then we get to watch Foxx and Diaz beat up some bad guys. It’s been 24 years since the Charlie’s Angels movie, but Diaz’s still got that mean right hook. And she still got that impeccable comedic timing, too, insisting, “She’s fine, it’s not that bad!” after her daughter chides her for knocking out a thug.

The film was directed by Seth Gordon (Identity Thief, Baywatch), and Gordon co-wrote the script with Brendan O’Brien. The production faced trouble in April 2023, when Foxx was forced to leave the shoot due to a medical emergency. A body double was used for his remaining scenes. Foxx has now recovered, and is back making public appearances. The supporting cast includes Kyle Chandler, Glenn Close, Andrew Scott, Jamie Demetriou, and Rylan Jackson.

Back in Action is Diaz’s first film since the 2014 movie musical Annie. The now 51-year-old actor unofficially announced her retirement from acting in 2017, and took a well-earned break from the Hollywood life. But now it seems Diaz is ready to get back, well, in action.

What is the Back in Action Netflix release date?

There is not yet a Back in Action release date, but the movie is expected on Netflix in 2024. Stay tuned for more!
