Sapwood vs. Heartwood

Did you know that trees have different layers of wood?

Sapwood is closest to the bark and is what transports water and minerals to the tree’s crown. This type of wood is less dense and contains more moisture. It is also lighter in color.

Heartwood is found in the center of the tree and is considered the strongest wood. It provides strength and support for the tree and contains minimal moisture. It is also darker in color than sapwood.
