Truth Tables
The truth value of a conditional statement if either true (T) or false (F). You can determine in which ways a conditional statement is true with a truth table. The most basic truth table, which evaluates p→q, is shown below.
The truth table is set up by showing all the possibilities for whether the hypothesis (p) or conclusion (q) is true. Then, it evaluates whether the statement is true or false based on the truth value of the hypothesis and conclusion. Truth tables can evaluate more than just p→q. They can evaluate the inverse, ~p→~q, the contrapositive, ~q→~p, and even more complicated statements, such as ~(p→~q).
