Help identifying nestlings?

Shouldn't have been cutting back at tis time of year without checking for nests. Hope he/she is feeling a tad guilty.

Looks like they're nicely exposed to any passing predators now, don't expect they'll last long.

You're 'disappointed' with a couple of replies pointing out some facts? Really? You do realise that if this is in the UK, your friend has potentially comitted an offence by disturbing an active nest.

Disappointed? Not as disappointed as we are that this happened but presumably there are no French laws protecting nesting birds. 

I'm not sure sarcasm ('nicely exposed') and judgement ('hope he's feeling guilty') count as facts.

To my knowledge, stumbling on a nest by accident is not an offence in any country. I don't know any more of the facts than I've shared here, but I know that this person is very respectful of wildlife in general and would never do anything intentional to harm birds. Whether or not he should have known better I can't possibly say, but I'd prefer to give him the benefit of the doubt, and not jump to conclusions without knowing any more of the context.

Since you mentioned it:

Le code de l’environnement précise alors en son article L.424-10 : « Il est interdit de détruire, d’enlever ou d’endommager intentionnellement les nids et les œufs, […] ». Les articles L.411-1, L.415-3 et l’arrêté du 29 octobre 2009 fixant la liste des oiseaux protégés rendent délictuel ce comportement lorsqu’il concerne des espèces protégées.

I’m not sure the inclusion of the word ‘nicely’ changes the facts of my post, but, whatever. It’s sad that you choose to focus on some imagined slight. Surely anyone so concerned with wildlife would have asked what they should do to possibly rectify the situation, instead of just asking for an ID. But hey ho, they’ve probably been a Magpies lunch by now anyway.

I thought (some of) you might be interested to hear how the blackbird nestlings were doing since their discovery.

Here's a picture from 13 July posted by my friend - I tried to upload on my phone but it didn't work, so only doing it now.  Looks like he did manage to protect them sufficiently after all!
