Behold the Downtown Views From the New Terrace Bar Inside the Peninsula Hotel

The Peninsula Chicago management seeks to give Chicagoans a swanky new terrace lounge with Z Bar, the new bar opening this afternoon on the hotel’s sixth floor. It’s a lesson in luxury with new views of the Mag Mile, decadent drinks with ingredients like 24-karat edible gold flakes, and fancy cocktail carts serving patrons throughout a 131-seat space. The space brings some electricity inside the 20-story Gold Coast hotel.

High rollers will find floor-to-ceiling windows, murals of Chicago mainstays, and portraits of animals (including a pug and a bunny). There’s a fire pit for the fall and winter months outside, and the deck is partially enclosed in places. Yabu Pushelberg, which locally redesigned the Public hotel in Gold Coast, designed Z Bar.

The cocktails are a mix of riffs on classics with surprises in each drink. The menu features familiar bar food using fancy ingredients. Wagyu sliders, steak fondue, and fried chicken buns are among the offerings.
