Stays - any of various strong ropes or wires for steadying masts. Stern - the back of a vessel. Fore Royal -the top sail on the Foremast. Fore- Topgallent Sail - the sail above the topsail. Fore- Topsail - a topsail set on the foremast of a ship. Foresail -the lowermost sail on the foremast. Ratlines - any of the small ropes or lines that cross the shrouds of a ship horizontally and serve as steps going aloft. Bow - the forward end of a vessel or airship. Bowsprit - a spar projecting from the upper end of the bow of a sailing vessel. Jibs - any of the various triangular sails set forward of a forestaysail or fore-topmast staysail. Flying Jib -(stay sail) the outer or outermost of two or more jibs on a ship, set well above the jib boom. Outer Jib -(stay sail) a triangular sail set in the middle of the other two sails. Inner Jib -(stay sail) a triangular sail set inward from a flying and outward jib. Shrouds -pieces of standing rigging which hold the mast up from side to side. Foremast -the mast nearest to the bow on any vessel with two or more masts.
