This Maserati Merak got away, but there are more like it here.

This 1975 Maserati Merak is one of 830 examples produced between 1972 and 1975, and it said to have been acquired by the current owner approximately ten years ago. Finished in red over black upholstery, the car is powered by a 3.0-liter V6 mated to a five-speed manual transaxle. Additional equipment includes 15″ Campagnolo alloy wheels, Citroën hydraulically boosted disc brakes, four-wheel independent suspension, pop-up headlamps, power windows, and a Clarion AM/FM cassette stereo. This Merak is offered on dealer consignment with a Wisconsin title.

The Merak was introduced at the 1972 Paris Motor Show as a lower-cost alternative to the contemporary Bora, with which it shared its styling from the doors forward. Bora designer Giorgetto Giugiaro of Italdesign also penned the Merak’s rear profile, which features a vertical rear window and a louvered horizontal engine cover flanked by flying buttresses. This example is said to have been repainted red in the 1990s and features pop-up headlamps, black bumpers, bright window trim, dual side mirrors, and quadruple aftermarket exhaust finishers.

Silver 15″ Campagnolo wheels are mounted with BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires measuring 215/60 up front and 235/60 out back. The Merak rides on a 102.4″ wheelbase and features a fully independent suspension with double wishbones, coil springs, and telescopic shock absorbers as well as front and rear anti-roll bars. Stopping power is provided by a Citroen-sourced hydraulically boosted ventilated disc brake system. Imperfections in the paint are visible on the wheels, and the selling dealer notes that the tires are dry rotted.

The 2+2 cabin houses front bucket seats and individual rear seats trimmed in black leather with a color-coordinated dashboard, center console, door panels, and carpets. Brushed metal trim adorns the instrument panel surround, and additional appointments include power windows, a clock, a front passenger footrest, and a Clarion AM/FM cassette stereo. Wear is noted atop the dashboard.

The single-spoke Maserati-branded steering wheel frames Jaeger instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and a cluster of warning lights surrounding a STOP lamp. The five-digit odometer shows 67k miles, approximately 5k of which were added under current ownership.

The carbureted 3.0-liter V6 was sourced from the contemporary Citroën SM. Factory rated output was 190 horsepower and 188 lb-ft of torque, and the engine is said to have been rebuilt in 2008. The battery was replaced in preparation for the sale, and the selling dealer notes that an oil and coolant leak are present.

The car is titled by identification number AM122US2000, however, only the last four digits appear on the ID plate in the door jamb.
