The #ConnectingEurope Days were held in Brussels (2-5 April) gathering +4000 participants being the most attended edition in history.
The ACEM team was pleased to showcase our latest technologies for #UrbanMobility to the EU institutional leaders in the transport sector: European Commission Commissioner Vălean and Director General Kopczyńska, and CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency Director Aba-Garrote.
As baseline, the new TEN-T Regulation will ensure the highest standards in safety, decarbonisation and innovation. In addition, 431 cities must submit their Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans #SUMPs by 2027 to promote a better and cleaner mobility while improving the quality of life for their citizens.
In this sense, the use of Powered Two-Wheelers stands as the perfect solution to complement the new regulatory framework with powertrain technologies tailored to different use cases. Especially in urban and peri-urban areas, our vehicles can facilitate commuting, limit the use of public spaces and offer flexibility to users.
Public authorities can rely on ACEM members as collaborative partners to improve mobility and accessibility in their strategic plans. To that end, as part of their R&D efforts, manufacturers are also progressively increasing the availability of electric models designed to meet these new consumer mobility and citizens’ needs, within or around cities. With the right enabling conditions, ACEM expects the predominant share of the urban mobility PTW market to be electric by 2030.
For example, electrification of the urban PTW fleet will also be supported by swappable batteries, currently under development by a dedicated consortium to which ACEM is associated. Once the technical specifications and the future standards are ready, tests will start in different cities. To ensure a successful market deployment, all actors in urban mobility need to be on-board such as local authorities, private and public investors. Future swappable stations will be located in strategic areas throughout the city (multimodal hubs, commercial neighbours, residential, business and tourist areas).
